Figured Sipo mahogany back and sides look amazing. Figured mahogany, in general, is not common, not nearly as common as figured maple. It makes an appearance every so often on martin Guitars and we couldn't be more excited for this latest batch of Martin Custom Shop D18 model's! Not only is figured Sipo part of the recipe but so is Adirondack Spruce!
An Adirondack Spruce top was chosen for this guitar so that it would be the perfect instrument for the person using a guitar to support their voice. This guitar is seriously loud and seems to go to 11 thanks to the Adirondack and Mahogany combo. This team stacks up with a very focused, uniform sound that makes chords sound ridiculously powerful. This guitar is a tone-cannon and can keep up with instruments like a mandolin or banjo much better than a Rosewood guitar. Granted it won't have the sweet harmonics of rosewood but it will more than make up for it with it's in your face focused articulation.
We chose the modified low oval neck profile for its ability to appeal to the majority of players. It's a great feeling C shaped neck that isn't too thick or to thin. Martin has done a nice job in making sure if you like playing one Martin, you'll most likely enjoy playing them all! The neck is made from mahogany and then topped with Indian Rosewood. The bridge is also made from Indian Rosewood for a uniform look.
