What a stunning guitar! This is one we went to the Martin factory to select exactly what sized guitar and outfit this beauty would be dressed in. Martin gave us the word that some exceptional grade Koa had made it's way to their factory. So we headed there ASAP and a handful of drop dead gorgeous beauties have already come and gone. This is the last of the run and is made from Blistered Koa, a very unique looking piece of Koa unlike anything we have ever seen before!
Before we reviewed the spec sheet, we guessed perhaps a Birdseye Koa, as that's what the figuring resembles. After digging through the specs we know the top, back and sides were constructed of Blistered Koa, a type of figuring Martin has used before but certainly not in great numbers. It has the amazing tones of Koa that has it at the forefront of many player's want lists. Scalloped Sitka Spruce braces allow for a very lively and resonant experience.
The neck features the much loved Modified Low Oval profile and the Performing Artist Taper. This combo is very easy to play thanks to a more uniform thinness as you work your way up the fingerboard. Topped with Black Ebony, the fingerboard is beautifully rich and dark.
