Description
Woah... This 1956 Gibson LG-2 in Sunburst is a true charmer! If you're looking for a guitar that will soulfully bloom each chord you strum, then you've found the one! This model was originally designed to be a student model in the late 50s, but because they were built with such quality components and were very easy to play they quickly became an acoustic players favorite flat-top Gibson model.
These instruments were built with solid spruce tops that produce a sweet top end with bell-like quality. The sides and back are made from Honduran Mahogany that is known for its supportive lower-mid range. Both Spruce and Honduran Mahogany are tonewoods that are known to open up more & more over time, now being as this specific guitar was built 63 years ago these tone woods have had more than enough time to settle in this build and open up the pores in the grain. The result is a fabulous, rich sounding acoustic guitar that can't be artificially replicated. The real charm in this guitar is in the first few chord positions (between the 1st-5th frets) perfect for cowboy chords and cash register tunes! This guitar was built with a 24 3/4" scale length and a nut width of 1 11/16", a very comfortable feeling that allows you to use a heavier string to discover the lower register and total output this guitar is capable of!
This guitar is in on consignment and has fret wear in the upper register of the guitar neck (9th-14th frets). The instrument had its top steamed and pressed here in our shop. It has had the bridge removed and remounted due to the original glue dissipating. Purchase of this guitar includes the original chipboard case.
Nobody treats used guitars like we do at The Music Gallery! All trade in's go through an inspection, cleaning, restring and setup before being put out on sale. We even put guitars with bad frets through our Plek machine if need be. If this service peaks your interest learn more here or give us a call!
